Parsons Brinckerhoff has been named construction manager for two Merced Community College District projects--a new library at the Merced campus and the development of a new campus in Los Banos.
The $16-million library will be a 67,000-sq.-ft., two-story steel-frame building, housing the main college library along with large study and computer work areas. Approximately half the building will be constructed on a raised computer floor to provide flexibility for data cabling. The library will be located on a 1-acre site with a plaza entrance and landscaping.
The second project entails development of a new community college site on 15 acres of farmland in Los Banos, about 40 miles west of Merced. The $18-million project involves site development of a campus infrastructure, including 100,000 sq. ft. of paving for roadways and parking. Additionally, two one-story buildings totaling 50,000 sq. ft. will be constructed to house a library, college administrative facilities, classrooms and lab areas.
Both projects are scheduled to be completed by November 2006.
