Emeryville-based Ratcliff has hired Kazumitsu Fujihashi as a health care designer.
He is assisting in the design of a new oncology treatment center for Kaiser Permanente in South San Francisco.
Fujihashi joined Ratcliff after spending the last two years as a medical planning consultant to architecture firms in Japan. Prior to that, he was the managing director of the Tokyo office of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc.
Fujihashi has received multiple commendations for his design excellence, including "Best Hospital Award," presented jointly from the Japan Institute of Healthcare Architecture and the Japanese Ministry of Health & Labor, for Inagi City Hospital in 1999 and Atsumi Hospital in 2002.
He received a master's degree in architectural planning and design from Chiba National University in Japan.
