The West Sacramento Riverwalk Project has been planned by the city's redevelopment agency to improve the quality of life of the community by revitalizing the riverfront, expanding recreational access and renovating underused infrastructure while creating housing and business opportunities. The 3.5-mi. project will create a public connection to the waterway by linking a mix of commercial and residential buildings to public amenities and riverfront restaurants.

The 7.5-acre park is located along the banks of the Sacramento River opposite Old Sacramento. Riverwalk Park is located near Raley Field at the base of the Ziggurat Building (the old Money Store), between the I Street Bridge and Tower Bridge.

Portland-based urban planning and landscape architecture firm Walker Macy Inc. was earlier hired as the prime consultant on the project.

Jones & Stokes is one of seven subconsultants. Jones & Stoke' services will include an environmental impact report, hydraulics analysis, permitting services, and an interpretive program that will result in the design and installation of all-weather kiosks to illustrate the city of West Sacramento and the region's history and natural resources.

Construction is expected to begin by spring 2007.
