The Sacramento office of Kitchell has completed work on a $238 million, 43-school Measure C modernization and new construction program for the San Jose Unified School District. The program totaled 1.7 million sq. ft. of rehabilitation and modernization of 43 schools.
Kitchell was responsible for providing overall bond program management and comprehensive construction management for the district's seven high schools, seven middle schools and two elementary schools. Included in the modernization program were the upgrade of general science laboratories, 13 designated gymnasiums, 43 libraries and administrative offices, 30 multi-purpose buildings and portable replacements throughout the district.
The architects were BFGC, The Steinberg Architects, HMC Architects, Bill Gould Design and PCM3. San Jose-based Toenisketter Breeding Inc. provided construction management services.
Program funding included both general obligation bond monies and matching funding from the state's lease/purchase program.
