M+NLB says Ostroy was given the award in recognition for his achievement in the energy efficient design of the Kaiser San Leandro Medical Center.

The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognize outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative building design in the areas of occupant comfort, indoor air quality and energy conservation. Their designs incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management and indoor air quality. Performance is proven through one year’s actual, verifiable operating data. Each year the Society present awards in six categories and in each category, first, second, and honorable mention winners are named. Each category first place winners may then be selected to receive the ASHRAE Award of Engineering Excellence. The recipient will have demonstrated the best overall compliance with the judging criteria.

Ostroy has over 40 years of experience in the design of HVAC, refrigeration system piping, boiler rooms, steam distribution, natural gas supply systems, fire protection, plumbing, control systems and energy studies. He has worked on dozens of projects within different industries, including commercial, mission critical, hospitality, healthcare and government facilities. His notable projects include a new central utility plant for a 300,000-sq-ft addition for the University Medical Center of El Paso; master planning, renovations, additions and new medical office building for the a $105-million Kaiser Vallejo Medical Center; and the $110-million, 275,000-sq-ft, central and south wing renovations and seismic upgrades for Kaiser San Francisco Medical Center, Geary campus.
