California High-Speed Rail Authority selected the Wong-Harris team as project and construction manager for the first 30-mile section of a high-speed rail line from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The joint-venture contract for PGH Wong Engineering, San Francisco, and Concord-based Harris & Associates is worth up to $34.9 million. Estimated at more than$1.8 billion, the envisioned rail line's first leg is to run from Madera to Fresno. Wong-Harris also will assist the authority in selecting the design-build contractor from among five that submitted bids on Jan. 18. That contract award is expected in June. Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority is reviewing design-build proposals for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Project, a proposed 8.5-mile light rail line to run from the intersection of Exposition and Crenshaw boulevards to the Metro Green Line's Aviation/LAX Station. The transit authority is expected to recommend a contract award, valued at up to $1 billion, at the Metro board of directors' May meeting. L.A. Irvine Ranch Water District is evaluating general contractor bids for new biosolids and energy-recovery facilities at the Michelson Water Recycling Water Plant in Irvine. The $150.9-million project will be built within a 4.6-acre site adjacent to the Phase 2 capacity expansion area. Designed by the Irvine office of Black & Veatch, the residuals handling system will include biosolids processing, biogas management and energy-recovery systems. 2/14 City of Anaheim Public Works is seeking design-build qualification submittals for the approximately $150-million Anaheim Convention Center expansion. DR#09-00411450. 3/19 The City and County of San Francisco has extended the bid date from its original Jan. 23 deadline for the Third Street Light Rail Phase 2-Central Subway Station. Estimated to cost more than $750 million, the project is to extend the existing Third Street Light Rail T-Line operating segment into Chinatown, including construction of several stations. The selected general contractor also will construct the line through a twin-bore tunnel portal, which is being built under a separate contract. Construction is anticipated to start in May.
