San Diego Market Report

San Diego's 3.2-percent unemployment rate as of December remains well below the level of surrounding counties and one important reason for the region's diversification. The vibrant economy has created a strong demand for construction of multifamily housing. For the construction industry, a good economy means more projects and a scramble for skilled labor.

Residential, Mixed-Use Construction Fueling Growth in San Diego County
The housing market will remain robust as long as supply lags demand and interest rates do not rise too quickly. A sharp increase in the median price of single-family homes is driving growth in the infill multifamily market. Many of the new urban projects include a retail and office mix.

Help for Highway 78
A diesel-powered light-rail project between Oceanside and Escondido is expected to ease the burden on north county roads. Downpours Delay Midnight Mission Project
About 15 in. of rain in a two-week period flooded the downtown Los Angeles site. The $17 million Midnight Mission center, which will provide a variety of services for the area’s homeless population, is scheduled to open next month. A number of contractors, consultants and suppliers have donated materials and services.
