Dome Construction Completes $32 Million Marin Health Campus Project
Dome Construction Corp. recently finished up a health care campus project in Marin County.
The newly opened 74,000-sq-ft Marin Health and Wellness Campus includes the transformation of five buildings and the surrounding site to produce a pleasing campus-like setting. The buildings will house the county of Marin’s Public Health Clinic, billing and administration, youth and family services and mental health programs.
Dome Construction played a significant role in renovation of the 35-plus year-old tilt-up buildings and the overall 235,000-sq-ft campus. Water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures were installed as well as photovoltaic panels on the roof to provide supplemental electric power. Each building also features a thermal recovery system for hot water.
The buildings will have conference and training rooms for staff and client education. This project has been designed to LEED silver standards and is on track to receive a LEED gold certification.
“We have significant experience with health care and life-science projects, which are complex in nature,” says Dome Chief Operating Officer Mark Bley.“Our performance met or exceeded all the county’s expectations with very tight delivery time frames. We were pleased to bring our skills to bear on the Marin Health and Wellness Campus and to work in concert with an exceptional project team. The superb performance of the project team has only been exceeded by the success and beauty of the final product.”
“This project was extremely fulfilling since all the participants of the project came together as a team to successfully address the challenges and exceed expectations,” says David Kolonay, Dome’s chief estimator and head of its tenant improvement practice. “Dome strives to be part of the team from the very beginning of each of our projects.”
“Dome Construction was able to bring this project in on time and on budget despite very tight time and budget constraints,” says Dennis Fisco, a partner at Marin Health and Wellness Campus-owner Seagate Properties.“The appearance of the final project is a testament to their considerable efforts and they are to be commended for a job well done that will serve the Marin County community for many years and many generations to come.”
“The main ideas behind the Marin Health and Wellness Campus were a green courtyard that creates a campus feeling, a central Connection Center to orient visitors, and very clear way-finding between five separate buildings,” says Project Architect Stephan Ciulla at RMW Architecture + Interiors. “Dome Construction and the team rose to the challenge and delivered a very memorable health campus for the county.”
The county of Marin had the vision to create a campus that would serve the surrounding community. By locating the campus on multiple bus lines and in proximity to many who will be able to utilize the county’s services that goal has been achieved.
Jeanne Miche, the Department of Public Works project manager for the renovation of the campus, says it was designed to be green at the direction of the Board of Supervisors. She further mentioned that the user groups are “thrilled to be in the buildings.”
