CATT Schedules Builders Conference for April

The Contractors Association of Truckee/Tahoe will hold its two-day Sierra Nevada Builders Conference on April 26-27 at the North Tahoe Conference Center in Kings Beach.
Topics discussed will center around the latest advances in technology, construction products and carpentry techniques.

Attorney Jim Porter and Jeanette Conradson will discuss SB 800 (Mechanics Liens) and QuickBooks for contractors.

About 50 exhibitors from different backgrounds and areas of expertise will showcase the latest products and give tips on how to make that next big job a little easier.

CATT officials said that, whether it’s an all-out remodel or just some basic sprucing up, the Customs Builders Show will have products, experts and advice to make sure attendees walk away feeling ready for the busy months of summer construction.

The cost is $5 at the door (free if you join CATT). Parking is free.

For more information, contact CATT at (530) 550-9999.

ASLA Announces National Landscape Architecture Week

The Washington, D.C.-based American Society of Landscape Architects has proclaimed April 19-27 as National Landscape Architecture Week. Association officials said they “seek to recognize the important role of landscape architecture in creating the special places where we live, work and play.”

The week encompasses Earth Day (April 22) and the birthday of Frederick Law Olmsted (April 27), acknowledged by many in the industry as the founder of the American landscape architecture profession. Public events are being planned across the nation, including student competitions, tours of local landscape architecture sites and community improvement projects.

The first National Landscape Architecture Week was held last year.

Founded in 1899, the ASLA is a national professional association for landscape architects. It represents more than 13,500 members nationwide.

“Landscape architecture is the most public of the arts, so we are inviting the public to join our celebration through their local chapters,” said Paul F. Morris, FASLA, president of ASLA.

Information on chapter events will be posted on the ASLA Web site, www.asla.org/laweek, as it becomes available.
