Precast Bridge Conference Planned
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The National Bridge Conference, where precasters
and engineers will present the latest techniques and innovations
for precast concrete bridge designs, will take place Oct.
19-22 in Orlando, Fla. The program will be held in conjunction
with the 3rd Annual International Symposium on High Performance
Concrete, sponsored by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute
and the Federal Highway Association.
"These two programs provide a unique collection of technical
sessions that will update bridge engineers and precasters
on new ideas for designing structures that are cost-effective,
highly constructable and visually appealing," said PCI
President James G. Toscas.
The institute's 49th annual convention and exhibition also
will be held in conjunction with these programs. The program
on high performance concrete will comprise nine short presentations
dealing with such subjects as quality control, aesthetics,
production needs and case histories that present specific
challenges and the solutions provided by the material.
Presentations on spliced I-girders and topics related to
AASHTO specifications are planned for the symposium's second
day, along with reports on a wide range of case histories
and findings from various research studies impacting bridge
design. Additional research reports and presentations on the
innovative self- consolidating concrete and high performance
bridge decks are planned for Oct. 22.
