The Associated General Contractors of California's Bay Region plans to hold several safety-related seminars in the coming weeks, including an OSHA 10-hour class for construction on Feb. 15, an excavating, trenching and shoring seminar on Feb. 24, and a fall protection seminar on March 1.

The OSHA 10-hour course comprises 10 one-hour sessions designed to inform students on the hazards associated with construction work and to help them develop or improve their hazard recognition skills. Topics include: introduction to OSHA; electrical hazards; materials handling; hazard communication; scaffolding; excavations; stairways and ladders; fall protection; fire protection and prevention; and hand and power tools.

Taught by Mark Aniello of Environmental Compliance & Remediation Inc., the course will be held Feb. 15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m at the Hilton Hotel. The cost is $275 for AGC members and $325 for nonmembers.

AGC's excavating, trenching and shoring seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m at the offices of Miller, Morton, Caillat & Nevis in San Jose. The class will also be led by instructor Mark Aniello. The cost is $125 for AGC members and $175 for non-members.

The seminar is designed for general contractors, engineering contractors, specialty contractors, superintendent, project managers and a other construction industry workers. The course is designed to provide a working knowledge of the fall protection standard to allow companies to make informed, safe and cost-effective decisions for the protection of their workers based on the options permitted under the new standards. Topics to be covered include protective systems, personal fall arrest systems, positioning device systems, warning line systems, controlled access zones and safety monitoring zones.

To register for the seminars call AGC's Concord regional office at (925) 827-2422 or visit AGC online at www.agc-ca.org.
