DPR Construction Starts
Facelift of Redwood City Courthouse
The courthouse project will include the demolition of an
annex building in front of the courthouse's entrance, but
has been vacant for five years due to seismic concerns. Redwood
City-based DPR also will add fountains and pavilions to the
courthouse property.
The project architect is Redwood City-based DES Architects
and Engineers.
The 69-year-old courthouse will come under the control of
San Mateo County's Historical Association. Another annex,
on the south side of the courthouse, will remain, as will
an adjacent parking lot. The courthouse is situated on a city
block bounded by Broadway, Middlefield, Marshall and Hamilton
streets.
San Clemente GC Completes 2 Projects
Daystar, a San Clemente-based general contractor, has completed
the Gateway Shopping Center in Glendora and the Kuta Grille
at the Towne Centre and Marketplace in Foothill Ranch.
The Gateway project, owned by DEKK Associates, included construction
of two, wood-framed pad buildings totaling 7,000 sq. ft. The
stores have been pre-leased to It's a Grind Coffee and Cal
National Bank. The architect was Newport Beach-based Robert
Kubicek Architects of Newport Beach. Daystar is also remodeling
the existing center with new facades, as well as parking lot
and landscape.
The 6,500-sq.-ft. Kuta Grille project entailed the conversion
of a former Keg's restaurant into a Tahitian-themed environment
with indoor and outdoor dining as well as a full service bar.
Designed by Aliso Viejo-based Exline Design of Aliso Viejo,
the project features teak and other traditional island materials.
The Olson Co. Starts Its Third Project
in National City
The Seal Beach-based Olson Co. and architect KTGY have broken
ground on Estrella Walk, a residential project comprised of
21 three-bedroom row homes in the coastal San Diego County
city of National City.
Three floor plans, priced in the mid $400,000s, will be offered.
The row homes include tub/shower enclosures, custom oak cabinets,
balconies and two-car garages.
The project has a spring 2006 completion date.
Mariposa Walk and Kalesa Walk, The Olson Cos.' first two
communities in National City, were completed in July 2004.
CM Completes Office/Warehouse Project in
Vista
Gafcon, a San Diego-based construction management firm, and
Los Angeles-based Nadel Architects has completed tenant improvement
management and construction for a 13,300-sq.-ft. multi-office/warehouse
facility in Vista for Tony Hawk, a professional skate boarder
and owner of the building.
A 16,055-sq.-ft. lot contains a two-story, 3,760-sq.-ft.
office and a 9,540-sq.-ft. warehouse, which is visible from
the mezzanine offices. It also includes a 75-ft. interior
skate ramp.
Nadel Architects served as project architect, space planner
and landscape architect. Nutter Electric Inc. was the electrical
engineer. Harrington Mechanical Design Inc. and Superior Air
Inc. were the mechanical engineers.
Parking Garage in North Park Underway
The Newport Beach office of McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. and
the Irvine office of International Parking Design have begun
construction of a 149,000-sq.-ft. parking structure with ground-floor
commercial space in the North Park area of San Diego.
San Diego-based Austin Veum Robbins Parshalle performed the
exterior façade design.
NPW 2930 LLC is the developer of the $7 million project.
Construction is scheduled for completion in November.
The garage will accommodate 388 cars on six levels. The scope
of work for McCarthy includes shell construction of 14,510
sq. ft. for future retail space. The garage is being built
to serve patrons of the North Park Theatre and the North Park
community at large. The theater currently is undergoing a
$7 million renovation by North Park Theatre LLC.
Construction, Design Completed on Business
Parks
Ware Malcomb, an Irvine-based architecture firm, has completed
construction of one business park and design for another.
San Diego-based Lusardi Construction teamed with Ware Malcomb
on the Regatta Business Center in Richmond. The project developer
was Legacy Partners of Foster City and Principal Financial
Group Inc. of Des Moines, Iowa. Regatta Business Center includes
nine industrial buildings for sale totaling 156,000 sq. ft.
on 10 acres. The buildings range in size from 10,000 sq. ft.
to 42,000 sq. ft.
Ware Malcomb has completed design for Scholle Center, Building
One, a four-story, 151,000-sq.-ft. structure. Swinerton Builders,
the general contractor, is scheduled to have the first building
completed by December. At build-out, Scholle Center will total
486,000 sq. ft. The multi-phase project includes four mid-rise
office buildings between four- and seven-stories tall. The
developer is Glendale-based Dorn-Platz & Co. The owner
of the first building is Chicago-based Scholle Corp.
Snyder Langston Breaks Ground on Car Dealership
The automotive group of Snyder Langston, an Irvine-based
general contractor, has broken ground on Mercedes Benz Valencia,
a $15-million auto dealership being built on a 3.6-acre site
for Sky Blue LLC.
The 44,000-sq.-ft. dealership will include a 28,000-sq.-ft.
showroom, administrative offices and 35 service bays. Completion
is scheduled for January.
Designed by Irvine-based LPA, the facility's two-story autohaus
architectural concept will serve as a prototype for Mercedes
Benz USA.
Swinerton Completes New Waterfront Ballpark
Swinerton Builders has completed construction of the 5,200-seat
Banner Island Ballpark for the Stockton Ports, a Class A baseball
team. The stadium, designed by the Beverly Hills office of
HKS Inc., is the first project out of the pipeline in the
planned Stockton Waterfront Event Center, which will also
include a 10,000-seat indoor arena, hotel, retail center and
parking garage.
The ballpark is a public/private development by the city
of Stockton and developer Regent Development Partners. Swinerton
is also building the adjacent multi-purpose arena.
