Dome Construction completes $32-million Marin Health Campus Project

The newly opened 74,000-sq-ft Marin Health and Wellness Campus includes the renovation of five buildings and the surrounding site to produce a campus-like setting. The buildings will house the county of Marin’s Public Health Clinic, billing and administration, youth and family services and mental health programs.

Dome Construction played a significant role in the renovation of the 35-plus year-old tilt-up buildings and the overall 235,000-sq-ft campus. Water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures were installed as well as photovoltaic panels on the roof to provide supplemental electric power. Each building also features a thermal recovery system for hot water.

The buildings will have conference and training rooms for staff and client education. This project has been designed to LEED silver standards and is expected to receive LEED gold certification.

RMW Architecture + Interiors was the project architect.

Both of the new facilities include cross-dock loading areas, 32-ft clear heights, ESFR fire sprinklers and ample truck and trailer parking. Sustainable features were also built, including skylights and low VOC interior white paint to allow reflection of natural light; a certified cool roof to reduce interior heat; a run-off filtration system using vegetated bioswales, which allows less and cleaner water to enter into the city’s storm drainage system; and drip irrigation and drought resistant vegetation to limit water consumption. Additionally, a significant portion of the construction debris was recycled.

Opus West Architects & Engineers and Ware Malcomb were the architects for the logistics center and Opus West Construction Corporation serves as the contractor. Kier & Wright is the civil engineer.

Oakland-based KPA Group served as the structural engineer for the project.

Built in the 1920’s and closed since 1966, the restored theater will offer a live entertainment venue, clubs, restaurants and special functions with a capacity of up to 3,000, as well as home to the city’s newest renovated school – the Oakland School for the Arts

The city of Oakland is the owner of the Fox Oakland Theater and the two new school wings. The $80 million renovation became a reality through the efforts of “Friends of The Fox” and Phil Tagami, an Oakland developer and philanthropist who raised more than $59 million dollars for the restoration project.

California Capital Group was the developer of the project.

Construction of the Fox began in January 2007 and involved some 600 workers from 30 different subcontracting firms.

Other new additions include state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, new heating and air conditioning, mechanical and electrical systems, and bathrooms, as well as cable and Internet access. All that currently remains of the office and retail wings is the historic brick façade, which fronts the new three-story buildings to be occupied by the arts school.
