Early work begins on mixed-use project in Sacramento

The initial infrastructure phase of the Sacramento Railyards, a 240-acre mixed-use project, has begun.

Teichert Construction was awarded the initial infrastructure phase of rehab grading Railyards Boulevard at The Railyards on the 5th Street, 6th Street, 7th Street Tunnel, and Railyards Boulevard.

Other bid packages will be awarded beginning in the third quarter this year, continuing through the fourth quarter of 2011. The developer is Thomas Enterprises.

The Railyards redevelopment will create 12,000 mixed-use, high-density housing units, including town homes and condominiums; a possible sports arena, with supporting restaurants, clubs, offi ce space, a hotel, retail, housing and parking.

The project will also add an intermodal transit facility along with a new track alignment featuring light rail, rail and bus connections, freight services and pedestrian linkages on the south end of the property; and central shops, featuring the preservation of seven notable historic brick structures, which were built by the railroad beginning in 1868.

Pre-qualified prime contractors for the project include C.C. Myers Inc., DeSilva Gates Construction Co., Ford Construction Co. Inc., Granite Construction Co., Kiewit Pacific Co., Lund Construction Co., McGuire and Hester, Sundt Construction Inc., Teichert Construction and Western Engineering Contractors Inc.

Brown Construction selected for second phase of Tercero

West Sacramento-based Brown Construction was selected general contractor for the second phase of the Tercero South residence halls project at UC Davis. The second phase of the three-phase project consists of three four-story residence halls.

The total approved budget for phase two is $55.2 million.

The architect for the project is Mogavero Notestine Associates; Interface Engineering of San Francisco is the mechanical and electrical engineer.

Officials are seeking LEED gold designation for the project, scheduled for a fall 2010 completion.

The project is expected to provide approximately 108,576 sq ft for student rooms, resident advisor rooms, lounges, study rooms, and commons spaces.

Ledcor starts KMA-designed public safety building in El Cajon

Ledcor Construction has started construction on a $40 million public safety building for the city of El Cajon.

The 5.7-acre, 119,400-sq-ft public safety building will be a five-story structure with 212,750 sq ft of parking integrated on three levels.

The facility will include administrative and operational space for all divisions, a joint police and fi re emergency operations center, community meeting room, modern communications center, indoor fi ring range, crime laboratory, property processing and storage area, short-term custody facility and central data center.

The project is scheduled for completion in June 2011.
