AMC Theatres Joins Otay Ranch Town Center
AMC Theatres, one of the world's leading theatrical exhibition
companies, has signed a letter of intent to build a 12-screen
state-of-the-art movie theatre at Otay Ranch Town Center in
Chula Vista. The AMC project will open in fall 2006.
"A dynamic project like Otay Ranch Town Center requires
the finest in entertainment, dining and retail," stated
Kris Longson, vice president of development for General Growth
Properties, the owner of Otay Ranch Town Center. "We
firmly believe that AMC Theatres at Otay Ranch will be a great
addition to the project and serve as a key driver in making
Otay Ranch an entertainment destination."
The proposed project calls for a 52,000-sq.-ft.theatre with
stadium seating for more than 2,200.
"We are pleased to once again have the opportunity to
work with General Growth Properties and be part of this exciting
project at Otay Ranch Town Center," said Phil Singleton,
president and chief operating officer of AMC Theatres. "AMC
Theatres is well-known in the San Diego market and is thrilled
to bring a sixth AMC Theatre to the area."
Otay Ranch Town Center is an 86-acre retail, dining, entertainment
and recreation development. The 860,000-sq.-ft. project includes
a two-level, open-air shopping center featuring a streetscape
design; six sit-down restaurants; a recreation venue and gourmet
grocer.
Kansas City, Mo.-based AMC Entertainment Inc. operates 229
theatres with 3,546 screens in the United States, Canada,
France, Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Chicago-based General Growth currently has ownership interest
and management responsibility for a portfolio of 209 regional
shopping malls in 44 states, as well as ownership in planned
community developments and commercial office buildings. The
company portfolio totals approximately 200 million sq. ft.
of retail space and includes about 18,000 retailers nationwide.
