SB Moves to Beach

SAN FRANCISCO -- SB Architects has moved its corporate office to 1 Beach St., near the Embarcadero in San Francisco. The new offices are nearly twice the size of its prior space. The move comes on the heels of a corporate re-branding last year that changed the name of the firm from Sandy & Babcock International to SB Architects.

MulvannyG2 Now in California and China

BELLEVUE, Wash.—The Northwest-based architecture firm of MulvannyG2 Architecture has opened an office in Irvine and Shanghai, China.

“When we found ourselves doing an increasing amount of work for [Seattle-based] Costco Wholesale in the greater-California region . . .the logical next step was for us to plant roots in California,” said Jim Hillier, vice president and managing principal of MulvannyG2’s Irvine office.

The Irvine office is currently working with Costco Wholesale and the city of Los Angeles on a redevelopment project at the intersection of Pico and San Vicente boulevards. Midtown Plaza is expected to be a vibrant mixed-use retail center.

MulvannyG2 is currently in preliminary design for the project, which will include major tenants Costco and The Home Depot.

MulvannyG2 is currently working on more than 18 million sq. ft. of design for a variety of clients in Shanghai that require on-site management.

“This gives us a tremendous advantage compared to other firms trying to break into the Chinese market,” said Remond Qi, who heads the company’s new office and business development efforts in Shanghai.

HSS RentX Opens on Broadway

OAKLAND—National chain HSS RentX has opened its newest tool and equipment rental branch at 2545 Broadway in Oakland. The location is the thirteenth California branch for Denver-based HSS RentX.

“We have a very loyal customer base in the Bay Area,” said Branch Manager John Mazur. “Our product range is an eye-opener for people who think equipment rental stops at generators, forklifts and carpet cleaners.”

The branch has a 1,000-sq.-ft. showroom and rents more than 1,500 types of tools, equipment and event products.

The Oakland opening is the second step in a four-store expansion planned for the spring and summer, said HSS RentX Chief Executive Officer Carlo Cavecchi.
