Parsons, City of Cleveland Receive Environmental Award
Pasadena-based Parsons, in partnership with the city of Cleveland,
has received the American Road & Transportation Builders
Association's Globe Award.
Parsons and the city were honored with the annual Airport
Award for Environmental Excellence for their environmental
program implemented during the Cleveland Hopkins International
Airport Expansion Program.
Parsons provided environmental planning, permitting, compliance
program, design and construction management services in support
of the airport's $1.4 billion expansion program.
A Parsons-led team of engineers, scientists, consultants and
contractors developed and implemented more than 100 environmental
permits that required the identification and implementation
of 12 off-site mitigation projects. Parsons' work resulted
in the restoration or preservation of more than 350 acres
of wetlands and more than 30,000 ft. of streams in a four-county
area surrounding Cleveland.
Parsons' partners in these projects included the Ohio Environmental
Protection Agency, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Cleveland
MetroParks, Geauga County Park District, Lorain County Metro
Parks, Medina County Park District and Chagrin River Land
Conservancy.
"Parsons and the city of Cleveland worked as partners
at a record-breaking pace to construct and commission Runway
6L-23R in less than 19 months after receiving federal approval,"
said Parsons Vice President and Program Manager David Brown.
"Huge efforts were made to protect, mitigate and preserve
the local environment," he added.
The Globe Award is given for projects that demonstrate excellence
in environmental protection, mitigation and enhancement through
the planning, design and construction of transportation projects.
Projects were reviewed and selected for award by an independent
panel of federal agency environmental specialists.
