Patrick J. Tighe Receives 2006 AIA Young
Architects Award
The board of directors of the American Institute of Architects
has selected Patrick J. Tighe AIA, as one of six recipients
of the 2006 AIA Young Architects Award. The award is given
for exceptional leadership and significant contributions to
the profession of architecture at an early stage of a recipient's
career. The award marks the fourth national AIA award that
Tighe has received since opening the doors of his Santa Monica-based
firm, Tighe Architecture, in 2000.
"It is an absolute privilege to receive this award,"
Tighe said. "I am humbled to be in the company of the
other recipients and of those who have received this honor
in the past."
The firm's recent work in retail, commercial, mixed-use,
public sector and residential arenas has gained considerable
recognition from the architecture and design community.
Tighe provided pro bono
services to design and build a community center for a non-profit
organization in South Central, Los Angeles. The design process
has proved a catalyst for the organization to raise money
and to ultimately realize their dream, a new building. Last
summer the office won a competition to design and build an
installation for Santa Monica's Clover Park.
Sustainable design, exemplified in the Trahan Ranch project,
is also an important aspect of Tighe's work.
"Tighe] is capable of offering unique, practical, and
beautiful solutions to complex problems and overcoming obstacles
that might otherwise lead to the predictable and the tried,"
said Michael Collins, president of the Collins Gallery.
