MacLeamy Named CEO of HOK
SAN FRANCISCO-The HOK Inc. board of directors has appointed
Patrick MacLeamy to the position of chief executive officer
of Kansas City, Mo.-based HOK Group Inc.
Based in the San Francisco office, MacLeamy will lead the
firm's future direction and vision in collaboration with HOK
Group Inc. President Bill Valentine.
MacLeamy joined HOK in 1967 as a designer in the St. Louis
office and relocated to San Francisco in 1970 to help establish
the firm's first regional office.
After serving in leadership roles in design, project management
and marketing, he was named chief administrative officer of
the San Francisco office in 1983. For the past eight years,
he has served as a member of the HOK executive committe -
the last three years as chief operating officer.
During his HOK career, MacLeamy has overseen the establishment
of several regional offices in the U.S. and Asia. Additionally,
he served in leadership roles on several landmark HOK projects,
including Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco (1978)
and King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
(1983).
As CEO, MacLeamy will continue to work closely with Valentine
to drive the firm toward its vision of being the world leader
in innovation for the built environment.
MacLeamy earned a Master of Architecture in Urban Design degree
from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He studied
abroad at both Ecole des Beaux-Arts Superieure in Paris and
the American Academy in Rome.
Johnson Appointed to SCS Board of
Directors
SAN DIEGO-Daniel E. Johnson has been appointed to serve a
two-year term on the board of directors of SCS Engineers,
an environmental consulting, engineering and construction
firm, which maintains offices in California and throughout
the United States.
Johnson is the co-founder and principal of San Diego-based
Environmental Business Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary
of SCS Engineers. The two firms merged in 2001 to expand the
presence of SCS Engineers in southern California. Environmental
Business Solutions now functions as SCS Engineers' principal
San Diego office, working closely with the firm's regional
headquarters in Long Beach.
As a member of the seven-person board of directors, Johnson
assists in providing overall strategic guidance and direction
for all company operations.
Smith Joins HGA San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO-Lawrence Smith has joined HGA Architects' San
Francisco office as a project architect to oversee the design
of the new $14.5 million Prewett Library in Antioch.
Smith's project experience includes buildings at the University
of San Francisco and San Jacinto Community College, and several
corporate campuses throughout Northern California.
Smith has been honored with many design awards including the
San Francisco Business Times Real Estate of the Year award
and the Solutia Doc Award from Dupont Antron.
Studios Promotes Clagett, Mitchell
SAN FRANCISCO-Studios Architecture has promoted Kacey Clagett,
director of marketing for the San Francisco and Los Angeles
offices, to associate principal.
Her experience has helped the firm diversify its portfolio
to include civic, university and other public-sector projects
and strengthen Studios' international corporate architecture
and interiors practice. She joined Studios in 2000 and has
16 years of experience with architectural and development
firms.
Clagett holds degrees from Yale University, UC Santa Cruz
and the University of Pennsylvania. She is active in many
professional associations, including the American Institute
of Architects' International Committee.
Studios also promoted Christopher Mitchell, director of the
Los Angeles office, to principal. He has been with Studios
since 1996. He started the Los Angeles office in 1999.
Mitchell specializes in the design of corporate, entertainment,
civic and luxury retail projects. His recent projects include
the de la Guerra and Ortega dining halls for UC Santa Barbara,
interiors for Bloomberg Financial in Los Angeles and the Industrial
and Commercial Bank of China in Shanghai.
Mitchell was project director for a new 155,000-sq.-ft. animation
studio for Warner Bros. at the $100 million reconfigured Sherman
Oaks Galleria. He is completing projects for UC Santa Barbara,
UCLA and Los Angeles City College.
Mitchell holds a Master of Architecture degree and First Professional
degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Kelso New ID of DGS
SACRAMENTO-Gov. Gray Davis recently announced the appointment
of J. Clark Kelso as interim director of the California Department
of General Services.
Kelso, 43, was appointed to serve as special advisor on information
technology and chief information officer for the state of
California last September. He will continue to serve in this
capacity.
As chief information officer, he is responsible for providing
leadership on information technology policy and for working
collaboratively with other information technology leaders
throughout state government.
Kelso will receive a salary of $71,424. His appointment does
not require Senate confirmation.
Since 1994, Kelso has been the director of the Capital Center
for Government Law and Policy at the University of the Pacific's
McGeorge School of Law.
Davis previously appointed him chair of the California Earthquake
Authority in November 2000 and confirmed his appointment as
California's Acting Insurance Commissioner, a position he
held from July to September 2000.
Kelso earned a J.D. from Columbia Law School and was a law
clerk to Judge Anthony M. Kennedy on the Ninth Circuit Court
of Appeal.
McCarthy Adds Lloyd
NEWPORT BEACH-McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. recently hired Richard
Lloyd as preconstruction director in its Southern California
division.
A construction industry veteran of 25 years, Lloyd will be
responsible for providing conceptual estimating, design/build
management, budgeting, systems-cost analysis, guaranteed maximum
pricing and hard-bid estimating.
Prior to joining McCarthy, Lloyd served as an estimator,
chief estimator and project manager for a number of large
construction firms in Southern California. His project experience
encompasses commercial, mixed-use, hospitality and health-care/assisted
living projects throughout Southern California.
Lerch Joins F&A
SAN FRANCISCO-Architectural design firm Flad & Associates
recently added Ken Lerch as director of development.
Lerch's activities will focus on Flad's business in the western
United States in science and technology, health-care and academic
projects. He brings nearly two decades of experience to a
role that will include strategic planning, corporate communications,
new project identification and creating new alliances for
the further development of Flad's regional presence.
Lerch was trained as an architect. He holds a Masters degree
in business.
Lerch won two national awards in marketing from the Society
of Marketing Professional Services. In his East Bay hometown
of El Cerrito, he was recently selected by the city council
as a parks and recreation commissioner.
