Ware Malcomb Transfers Rogers

SAN RAMON—Ware Malcomb has designated Stephen Rogers to work in the Irvine-based firm’s Northern California office. As a project manager, Rogers is responsible for a variety of industrial and commercial office work.

Rogers transferred from Ware Malcomb’s Denver office, where he worked with Catellus Development Corp. and Trammell Crow Co.

Rogers has seven years of experience in the architecture and design industry. He joined Ware Malcomb in 2001.


Johnson and Todd Join Daly’s L.A. Office

LOS ANGELES—Judy Johnson has joined the Los Angeles office of architect Leo A Daly as principal and director of business development.

In her most recent position as vice president of URS Corp., Johnson was responsible for a marketing and business development program for the firm’s construction services division. She contributed to contract awards for clients such as UCLA, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Los Angeles Unified School District and the city and county of Los Angeles.

Duncan Todd joined the Los Angeles office as project manager, focusing on university and higher education projects, with a secondary focus on hospitality.

Todd will manage the new Rain Forest of the Americas Exhibit and Reptile and Insect Interpretive Center at the Los Angeles Zoo. He has 17 years of experience in leading design teams.

His design for Soledad High School won the AIACC/CASH School Design Award.


Thelen Transfers Thum

LOS ANGELES—The construction law firm of Thelen Reid has transferred Robert B. Thum, a partner in its construction and government contracts practice to the firm’s office in Los Angeles.

Thum will focus on serving clients in Southern California and will also continue to serve clients in the Northern California market.

Recently recognized as one of the leading construction attorneys in California in the 2003 Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Business Lawyers, Thum has extensive experience in engineering, construction and government contracts disputes and litigation. He has published and lectured widely on construction law topics.

Thum holds a J.D. from the Cornell Law School, where he was the editor of the Cornell Law Review.

Thum is an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association's National Panel of Construction Arbitrators and the California Office of Administrative Hearings Public Construction Arbitration Program.


Pepper Adds 2 to Marketing Staff

IRVINE—Pepper Construction has added two employees to its maketing department.

David S. Smith has been named account manager.

Smith is responsible for business development, increasing name recognition for the firm and maintaining existing client relationships.

He has more than 10 years of experience in the construction industry.

Smith previously held a project management role with Lawrence Bonas Co. He has held business development position with BHC Crane Service and SASCO Electric.

Jennifer C. Salter has joined Pepper as a marketing assistant.

Prior to joining Pepper Construction, she worked for Construction Management & Development as a marketing coordinator.


McCarthy Hires 3 PMs

NEWPORT BEACH—McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has hired Brad Kirstein, Scott Mulkay and Matthew May as project managers in its Southern California division.

Kirstein is currently managing McCarthy's work at Laguna Beach High School. During his 22-year construction career, Kirstein has worked on several K-8 and higher education projects.

Mulkay is managing the Azusa Gladstone High School project. He has eight years of construction experience.

May is managing the Broadway Golden Elementary School in Long Beach.

He has 20 years of industry experience. He earned an MBA from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.


Roel Hires 6, Promotes 2

SAN DIEGO—Roel Construction has added six new staffers to its Orange County office and promoted two employees at its headquarters in San Diego.

The firm hired Lorraine Herren, Robb Perkins, Allen Davis, Mark Sumpf, Ania Sorbe and Ann Yarza at its Irvine office.

Herren was hired as a project engineer. She has more than 20 years construction experience and is currently working on a remodel of the Honda Santa Monica dealership.

Perkins joins Roel as a project engineer. He has four years experience in project management.

Davis was hired as a project manager. He last worked for B.H. Miller Investments.

Davis has 23 years of construction experience and is currently working on the Livermore Auto Center, a $12 million development.

Sumpf is Roel’s new director of the automotive advisory group. He previously owned his own company, XR&D. He has 19 years of experience in the development industry and Sorbe joins Roel as project coordinator in its auto group. She has three years of experience in the construction industry.

Yarza has been hired as a project coordinator. She joins Roel from Anaheim Hills-based general contractor Lyle Parks Jr. Inc. She has five years experience in construction.

In San Diego, Roel promoted Ben Briggs from project manager to senior project manager.

Briggs is currently working on construction for Faith Presbyterian Church in San Diego. He has been with Roel since 1998.

The San Diego office also promoted Leon Camarda from project engineer to assistant project manager.

Camarda is currently working on the $25 million Montefaro project in La Jolla. He joined Roel two years ago.
