McGuire Joins AC Martin Team
SACRAMENTO-Los Angeles-based AC Martin Partners has named
John McGuire as director of its Sacramento office.
AC Martin is campus architect for Sonoma State and Chico
State universities, and has done work at UC Davis as well.
The six-year-old Sacramento office will continue to pursue
GSA contracts in addition to university, cultural, housing
and corporate commissions.
Prior to joining AC Martin Partners, McGuire was a senior
associate at KMD Architects in Portland and a principal of
his own firm. He has presented at conferences and universities
worldwide, was a tenured associate professor of architecture
at Drury University, Hammons School of Architecture in Springfield,
Mo., and an assistant professor at the University of Oregon
in Eugene. McGuire was a visiting lecturer at Edinburgh College
of Art in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he received a Masters
of Science degree in architectural conservation.
Aon Hires Callan for Bay Area Office
SAN FRANCISCO-Aon's Construction Services Group has hired
financial services industry veteran John Callan as managing
director of the firm's San Francisco office.
Callan will focus on risk management strategies and provide
financial consultation for Chicago-based Aon's construction
industry clients. In the risk management area, Callan will
lead relationship management initiatives, serving as team
leader for surety and construction risk solutions, as well
as develop strategies for surety capacity and rate solutions.
On the financial consultation side, Callan will provide comprehensive
financial statement analysis, design balance sheet strategies
and provide subcontractor risk management analysis, among
other things.
Callan joins Aon after a 34-year run at KPMG, where he led
the firm's national construction practice since 1987.
Callan is an active member of the Associated General Contractors
of America and the Consulting Contractors Council of America.
He serves as national director of the Construction Financial
Management Association. He is also the co-editor of Aspen's
Construction Accounting Deskbook and the author of several
chapters.
Alhady Back With McCarthy
ROSEVILLE-Aaron Alhady has returned to McCarthy Building
Cos. Inc. after a three-year stint with Folsom-based Meridian
Project Systems, where he served as a national account manager.
Alhady will serve as director of business development for
McCarthy's Northern Pacific Division/Roseville office. He
is a 10-year McCarthy veteran.
Alhady previously worked in McCarthy's Irvine and Sacramento
offices.
Touchstone Joins Bridge and Tunnel
Division
PASADENA-Parsons has appointed Bradley C. Touchstone as
bridge architect/bridge aesthetics manager of its Pasadena-based
bridge and tunnel division. He will be based out of Parsons'
Tallahassee, Fla., office.
Touchstone will manage Parsons' bridge architectural and
aesthetics activities for conventional and complex bridge
projects worldwide.
Touchstone received the Florida Association of the American
Institute of Architects Unbuilt Design Merit Award. Previously,
as a sub-consultant to Parsons, Bradley was instrumental in
achieving several design competition wins and accolades for
the bridge and tunnel division.
Prior to joining Parsons, Touchstone was a bridge architect
for the Figg Engineering Group in Tallahassee, Fla.
Roel Adds 3 to Project Management
Team
SAN DIEGO-Roel Construction Co. has expanded its project
management team.
Curt Favinger is a new project engineer. He recently graduated
from the United States Marine Corp. and has eight years experience
in the construction industry. Favinger previously worked for
Roel as a project engineer on the Renaissance project in downtown
San Diego.
Marlene Hickle has left Jacksonville, Fla.-based The Haskell
Co. to join Roel's Irvine office as a project manager. She
has 19 years of experience in the construction industry.
Celena Vandergrift has been hired to be a project facilitator.
She is currently working on the Clarion Bayview Hotel renovation.
Cardon Named President of Residential
Unit
SAN DIEGO-Building industry veteran Bill Cardon has joined
San Diego-based Buie Communities LLC.
Cardon will serve as president of Buie Residential, a new
division of the 20-year old company, and be responsible for
the acquisition and development of all future residential
properties.
Cardon previously served as regional general manager at Los
Angeles-based KB Home. He has 31 years of experience in residential
real estate development, 16 of those years at KB.
Cardon formed the San Diego division of KB Home. In 1999,
he became regional general manager for KB Southern California.
Prior to joining KB Home, Cardon worked for eight years at
San Diego-based McMillin Communities, where he served as vice
president and was project manager for many of the developer's
Scripps Ranch residential neighborhoods.
Cardon holds a master's degree in Economics from Troy (Alabama)
University.
Founded in 1983, The Buie Group of Cos. has built about 5,000
residential units throughout the Southland.
New Managing Director Hired for Architecture
Firm
SAN DIEGO-Austin Veum Robbins Partners, an architecture and
interior design, planning and engineering firm, has hired
Paul Thometz as managing director of its Los Angeles office.
Thometz spent 16 years in Los Angeles at Langdon Wilson and
the past six years as the marketing/business development principal
for the Los Angeles office of HOK. His portfolio includes
a total of 5 million sq. ft. of mixed-use and office developments,
corporate facilities, public and institutional projects, laboratory
facilities, campus master plans and resort projects.
In separate moves, the San Diego office of AVRP has promoted
Stephen Pomerenke and Tom Vorkoper to associate and hired
San Diego architect John Hinkel as a senior designer.
As a lead designer at AVRP, Pomerenke's 15 years of experience
includes architecture, landscape architecture and interior
design of corporate, high-tech, biotechnology, residential
and urban design projects.
Vorkoper has eight years of experience in designing a variety
of program types including community centers, education, religious
facilities, restaurant and office spaces
Hinkel joins AVRP from cross-town firm Carrier Johnson. He
has 20 years of experience in urban design and specialty architecture.
