New Trio of PMs at MBH

ALAMEDA-Project managers Terry Miller, Ajit Roy and Don Dacumos have joined Alameda-based MBH Architects.

Miller is MBH's senior project manager for the Gap Inc. and its Old Navy unit. He worked at two architecture firms before joining Gap. as a project designer, project manager and senior manager.

Roy is an MBH project manager for Urban Solutions Studio. Prior to joining MBH, he was a project manager, project architect and construction administrator at Kwan/Henmi Architecture/Planning and R. Don Spencer II Associates.

Dacumos an MBH senior project manager for the Limited Studio. He previously was a supply management advisor and senior project manager for Gap.

Dacumos also has worked at several firms in the Bay Area as a designer and project manager.


New Associates, Senior Associates at Forell/Elsesser

SAN FRANCISCO-Forell/Elsesser Engineers Inc., a San Francisco-based structural and earthquake engineering firm, has promoted six engineers-three to associate and three to senior associate.

The associates are Paul Hofland, Ben Maxwell and Allen Nudel. The senior associates are Stan Toholski, Derek Westphal and Rene Vignos.

Hofland joined the firm in 1997 as a senior project engineer. His recent experience includes the Learning Resource Center at Mission Community College in Santa Clara.

Maxwell joined Forell/Elsesser in 1998 as a project engineer. His recent experience includes several projects for UC Berkeley. He has a master's degree in architectural engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Nudel joined the firm in 2000 as a project engineer. He has worked on major civic buildings throughout the Bay Area. Nudel earned a master's degree in structural engineering from UC Berkeley.

Toholski has been with Forell/Elsesser for eight years and an associate since 2001. His recent projects include the completed Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and the current seismic retrofit of Pasadena City Hall. Toholski earned a master's degree in structural engineering from UC Berkeley.

Westphal became an associate in 2001. He joined the firm in 1996. His major projects include the San Francisco State Office Building, UC Berkeley's Barker Hall Renovation and the Concourse H Intermodal Transit Facility at San Francisco International Airport. Westphal earned a master's degree in structural engineering from UC Berkeley.

Vignos joined the firm in 1999 as a project engineer. His recent projects

include the design for the 165,000-sq.-ft. Biomedical Research Center for UCSF, Mission Bay, and the seismic retrofit of the state capitol in Salt Lake City.


Pathare Joins Huntsman

SAN FRANCISCO-Rahul Pathare has joined San Francisco-based Huntsman Architectural Group as a lead designer and project manager.

Pathare is serving as project manager for the former Chevron Towers at 555/575 Market St. Pathare's 10 years of experience is concentrated in the planning and design of commercial interiors with a focus on law offices. He served as technical lead for the design and construction of 50,000 sq. ft. of offices for the law firm Gray Cary Ware Friendenrich on King Street in San Francisco, a project that won several design awards in 2002.


Watts New CEO, COO of Miller/Watts

RICHMOND-Denny Watts, a former CEO and COO of Pittsburgh-based Dick Corp., has joined Miller/Watts Constructors Inc. in the same capacity.

Prior to Watts' arrival, Miller/Watts,a government and military construction specialist, was named Miller/Thompson Constructors Inc.

Before joining Miller/Watts, he was vice president for Chico-based Walsh Construction. Watts has 33 years of construction experience, with an emphasis on heavy civil, commercial, industrial and specialty contracting.

Watts has worked extensively on design-build contracts in the Pacific Rim and with the federal government.


Touschner Elected VP Legislative Affairs for AIACC

SANTA MONICA-Pam Touschner, partner-in-charge of WWCOT's Inland Empire and Coachella Valley operations, has been elected vice president, legislative affairs, for the American Institute of Architects California Council.

WWCOT (Widom Wein Cohen O'Leary Terasawa) is a Santa Monica-based design firm that provides architectural and interior design services to clients across a wide range of markets.

In her role, she will oversee AIACC lobbying efforts before the California Legislature and will develop the association's sponsored legislative agenda.

As vice president of legislative affairs, Touschner sits on the board of directors and executive committee for the AIACC. She will serve a two-year term. Touschner is the immediate past president for the AIA/Inland California Chapter.

She is currently responsible for several major projects for the Palm Springs, Coachella Valley and West Covina Unified school districts and health care facilities for Kaiser Permanente in Ontario, Corona and Fontana.


McLamb Promoted to Clark VP

SAN DIEGO-The Clark Construction Group Inc. of Costa Mesa has promoted Jim McLamb to vice president.

McLamb joined the company in 1990 as a project engineer at the Naval Intelligence Center in Suitland, Md. He was promoted to project manager on the $300 million Los Angeles Convention Center expansion and later led teams on the Flamingo Hilton expansion in Las Vegas and the close-out of the Denver Public Library.

As project executive, McLamb served on the Los Angeles City Hall renovation and seismic upgrade team and is currently completing Petco Park, a 46,000-seat baseball stadium for the San Diego Padres.

McLamb received a J.D. from Whittier Law School in Costa Mesa.


Hernandez Joins DPR

NEWPORT BEACH-DPR Construction Inc., a Redwood City-based general contractor and construction manager, has hired Charlie Hernandez as a senior project manager. Hernandez will work in DPR's Newport Beach office.

Hernandez has 17 years of construction experience on projects ranging from $1 million to $30 million in a variety of markets.

He is LEED-accredited and a member of the International Facility Management Association in Orange and Los Angeles counties.


AGC San Diego Appoints Barnhart Execs

SAN DIEGO-Associated General Contractors, San Diego, has named Arthur L. "Tex" Barnhart to serve as senior vice president on its board of directors. Barnhart is chief operations officer of San Diego-based Douglas E. Barnhart Inc., one of Southern California's largest general contractors. Barnhart has been in the construction industry for 17 years, having estimated, bid, supervised and managed more than $1 billion worth of projects.

Eric Stenman, corporate counsel for Douglas E. Barnhart Inc., was appointed to serve on the National AGC Contract Documents Committee for 2003-2004. The committee's goals are to develop and revise balanced contract documents and related material originated by AGC. It also reviews contract documents and related materials of other organizations for comment and/or potential AGC endorsement.


Hill Joins Roel

SAN DIEGO-Roel Construction Co. has hired Lauren Hill as a project coordinator.

She joins Roel from DPR Construction.

Hill has three years of experience in the construction industry.
