J.R. Roberts Corp. Promotes 3 Senior Managers
Mike Vinks, Don Cruzon and Dave Marchant have been promoted
by J.R. Roberts Corp., a Citrus Heights-based general contractor.
Vinks, a 24-year veteran at J.R. Roberts and the former vice
president of Northern California operations, has been named
executive vice president. His duties include overseeing California
field operations. Vinks, a registered architect, was J.R.
Roberts' first employee.
Cruzon, previously manager of multifamily housing, is now
vice president of multifamily housing. He began his career
with J.R. Roberts in 1988. He has 32 years of residential
construction experience.
Formerly a project manager, Marchant is now operations manager
of multifamily projects. He has been with J.R. Roberts for
12 years as a project manager on many commercial and multifamily
projects. He will oversee operations of private, multifamily
projects in Northern California. His duties will include both
contract administration and project management.
McCarthy's Rich Henry Appointed to SACTO
Board of Directors
Rich Henry, president of the Northern Pacific Division of
McCarthy Building Cos. Inc., recently was elected to the board
of directors of the Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization,
a private, nonprofit, economic development organization that
encourages businesses to place job-generating investment in
the greater Sacramento area.
As a board member, Henry will be responsible for working
with the other board members in governing and establishing
organization policy. Elected to a three-year term, he will
market the advantages of the six-county region and encourage
businesses to locate to the greater Sacramento area by facilitating
their site-selection needs.
He currently serves on the Division of the State Architect
Advisory Board and Department of General Services' "Super-Partnering"
forum group.
Henry joined McCarthy in 1980 and has been involved with
such high-profile projects in Northern California as the Robert
and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at UC Davis,
Valley Children's Hospital, the Sacramento Convention Center
and Charles Schulz Information Center at Sonoma State University.
He has been active with the Coalition for Adequate School
Housing, Association of General Contractors, Construction
Employers Association and Association of California Construction
Managers.
MBH Architects Adds Several Employees
Alameda-based MBH Architects has added several new employees
in its Alameda and Newport Beach offices.
Joining the Alameda office are John Schmid (senior project
manager); Olivier Santoni-Costantini and Mike McKeon (project
managers); Wang Chan, Debra Keller and Christopher Eisner
(job captains); Mimi Fabila, Irene Yang, Dragana Urosevic,
Rey Acosta, Christy Ortins and Andrea Redewill (drafters);
Alex James (PC technician); and Carol Averill (accounting
department).
The Newport Beach office has hired Gustavo Grad (project
manager); Iscolina Delgado (designer); Avtar Singh and Roshni
Patel (drafters); Catherine Van Orsdel (administrative assistant)
and Michelle Malone (office manager).
Eric Lazear Appointed President of Amtech
Lighting Services
San Francisco-based Amtech Lighting Services, a wholly owned
subsidiary of ABM Industries Inc., has named Eric Lazear as
president. He replaces Ron Gilcrease, who had been Amtech's
president for eight years.
Lazear was previously president of ABM's Amtech Elevator
Services subsidiary for six years before ABM sold the unit
last year to Otis Elevator Co. Following the divestiture,
he was general manager for business development for Otis'
North American elevator services division.
Frank Mellon Named to AGC Industrial Relations
Post
Frank Mellon has joined the staff of AGC California as director
of industrial relations for Northern California.
Mellon serves on the board of directors of the East Bay Municipal
Utility District. He was elected to the board in 1994 to represent
Ward 7, which includes areas of Castro Valley, portions of
San Leandro and Hayward in Alameda County and a portion of
San Ramon in Contra Costa County. He was re-elected in 1998
and 2002. He served as vice president of the board from 2000-02
prior to being elected president in January 2003.
Mellon teaches labor law in the Human Resources Certificate
Program at California State University, Hayward.
He previously was human relations manager for Central Concrete
Supply Co. and served as an association executive with United
Employers Inc. He has 25 years of experience as a human resource/labor
relations consultant.
Mellon received an MBA from St. Mary's College in Moraga.
Julie Bandini Joins DMJM
Los Angeles-based architecture, engineering, planning and
interior design firm DMJM Design has hired Julie W. Bandini
as an associate vice president.
She will work in the Los Angeles office and coordinate her
business development efforts with her counterparts in the
Orange County, San Francisco and Phoenix offices. Bandini's
primary focus is the pursuit of private-sector development
in Southern California and higher-education projects throughout
the state.
She previously was a senior associate and director of business
development/public relations at Johnson Fain, a Los Angeles-based
architecture, planning and interior design firm.
Bandini has 15 years of industry experience. She recently
served on the board of directors for CoreNet Global's Southern
California chapter. She is an active member of AIA/Los Angeles,
Los Angeles Headquarters, Los Angeles Conservancy, Central
City Association, SMPS, ULI and Westside Urban Forum.
Ware Malcomb Promotes Maureen Hoang
Ware Malcomb, an Irvine-based architectural and interior
design, firm has promoted former marketing coordinator Maureen
Hoang to marketing manager.
Hoang will be responsible for overseeing the compilation
of company proposals, presentation strategy and development,
communication strategies and the creation of marketing support
materials in the firm's regional offices.
She has been with Ware Malcomb since 1998.
McCarthy Hires 3 Project Managers
John Whitmore, David Barlow and Mike Forys have been hired
as project managers by McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. They will
oversee select McCarthy projects for the firm's Southern California
division in Newport Beach.
Before joining McCarthy, Whitmore served in a number of project
management and field positions, where he worked on health
care and education projects.
Barlow has extensive education project experience, including
a number of bond projects for the Los Angeles Unified School
District. He has 20 years of construction experience.
Forys' 11 years of construction experience includes stints
as an assistant construction manager, field project engineer
and project manager.
He was granted associate membership status in the American
Institute of Constructors, was awarded the Alameda Theatre
Contractor of the Year and was a recipient of a scholarship
from the Southern California Contractor's Association. He
also is a member of the American Association of Cost Engineers
International and is a Certified Construction Documents Technologist.
Doug Aadland Elected Chairman of Transportation
California
Transportation California, a collaboration of business, labor
and government organizations interested in promoting sound
transportation policies, has elected Doug Aadland as chairman.
He is vice president of estimating for Riverside-based Yeager
Skanska, and has been with the firm-formerly E.L. Yeager Construction-for
27 years. The company is working on the Interstate 5/Interstate805/State
Route 56 widening project in San Diego and 28 mi. of improvements
to Interstate 15 between Victorville to Barstow. After the
Northridge earthquake in 1994, E.L. Yeager rebuilt the twin
80-ft. bridges on Interstate 5 that overlook Gavin Canyon.
Aadland has been a strong advocate for transportation for
a decade, most recently involved in the efforts to pass Proposition
42, a statewide measure that dedicates the sales tax on gasoline
to transportation projects, and Measure A, a local-option
transportation sales-tax initiative in Riverside County. He
now is working in favor of Measure I, a similar half-cent
measure in San Bernardino County.
Bruce Morimoto Joins Leo A Daly
Bruce Morimoto has joined the Los Angeles office of Leo A
Daly as director of interior design. He will oversee the office's
interiors division, cultivate client relations and manage
business development.
Morimoto is working on various projects for Union Bank of
California, Beckman Coulter and Southwest College and Ventura
College.
He previously was the executive director for RSA, a Los Angeles-based
architecture firm. His background includes projects in programming,
space planning, interior design and renovations.
Morimoto's previous work includes Sheraton Four Points hotels
at Los Angeles International Airport and in Santa Monica,
JP Morgan Private Banking in Newport Beach, the Los Angeles
Media Technical Center and Hughes Communications' corporate
headquarters and satellite command center in Long Beach.
He has 25 years of experience in all sectors of interior
architecture, including hospitality, health care, corporate
and high-tech communications.
Barnhart Promotes Suresh Rayana
San Diego-based Barnhart Inc., a general contracting and
construction management firm, has promoted Suresh Rayana to
vice president of preconstruction services and estimating.
He previously was chief estimator.
Rayana will oversee projects throughout the preconstruction
phase, with an emphasis on projected project cost, constructibilty
and value engineering. He has 15 years of experience and has
a master's degree in construction science from the University
of Oklahoma.
Donna Vargo Joins Johnson & Jennings
Donna Vargo, a former executive vice president at San Diego-based
Roel Construction, has joined the management team at Johnson
& Jennings General Contracting, a San Diego-based firm
that specializes in tenant improvement projects. Her primary
focus will be on strategic growth and development of the firm.
Vargo was with Roel for 11 years, where she began as a project
manager, was promoted to senior project manager and later
served as executive vice president, responsible for managing
the company's tenant improvement and special projects group
in California. She oversaw all project management activities,
including conceptual estimates, value engineering, design
development coordination, subcontractor bidding and CPM scheduling.
Vargo has 26 years of construction industry experience.
She has been an active member of Women in Commercial Real
Estate and the National Association of Female Executives.
