Kathy Littmann Joins HNTB Architecture
Kathy Littmann has joined the Los Angeles office of HNTB
Architecture Inc. as a vice president and director of program
management. She previously was president of her own firm,
Los Angeles-based Two Roads Consulting Inc.
"Littmann's proven leadership and experience in program
management makes her the ideal person to build HNTB Architecture
Inc.'s program management services across many market sectors,
including education, aviation, corporate and government services,"
said Tony Gonzales, vice president and leader of HNTB Los
Angeles.
Littmann was deputy chief executive of new construction while
with the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she was
recognized by the American Institute of Architects as "Educator
of the Year" for "raising the bar and encouraging
good design for schools."
Engineering News-Record,
a weekly magazine published by McGraw-Hill Construction, gave
Littman its 2003 National Construction Industry Award of Excellence.
Littmann has about 25 years of construction project and
program management experience, including general contracting,
field supervising and at-risk construction.
"Kathy's commitment to quality design and management
services will help HNTB deliver even more value to our clients,"
Gonzales said.
Littmann was with the Bovis Group in New York City from 1988
until moving to the firm's Chicago office in 1993. Littmann
served as regional director of the Bovis Group in Los Angeles
from 1994-96.
PCL Construction Services Promotes Darin
Chestnut
The Glendale regional office of PCL Construction Services
has promoted Darin Chestnut to San Diego district manager.
The former project manager began his career with PCL in 1992.
He is the project executive on UC Irvine's Cal-(IT)2 project
and the Glorietta Bay Civic Center and Promenade in Coronado.
In other moves in the San Diego office, Hai Dai Fleetwood
was promoted to administration manager, James Sipes was appointed
construction manager and Dennis Uthe becomes chief estimator.
Earth Tech Appoints 3 New VPs
Long Beach-based Earth Tech Inc., a global provider of consulting,
engineering and construction services, named three vice presidents
to pursue major infrastructure projects in the United States
and Canada.
Pamela Murray Johnson will consolidate the development and
delivery of K-12 school construction projects that were previously
carried out by individual Earth Tech offices. She will be
located in an Alexandra, Va., office.
Joe Cazares will be responsible for business development
of large transportation projects nationwide, including public/private
programs, and design/build projects. He will be based in San
Diego.
Lou Tortora Jr. will be responsible for global sales and
marketing for Earth Tech's water, wastewater and water resources
projects. He will be based in Milwaukee. Prior to joining
Earth Tech, Tortora was a senior vice president for Camp Dresser
& McKee Inc.
James Barwick Joins GVA IPC
James F. Barwick has joined San Diego-based GVA IPC, a commercial
real estate brokerage firm, as senior vice president and principal.
Barwick previously served as assistant director of the real
estate department for the San Diego Unified Port District.
His project for the district included the North Embarcadero
Visionary Plan, Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan, San Diego
International Airport Master Plan and Port of San Diego Maritime
Master Plan.
Prior to working for the port, he was an associate vice president
of real estate brokerage for Burnham Real Estate Services
in San Diego.
Suffolk Construction Adds Marv Peper
The Irvine office of Suffolk Construction Co. hired Marv
Peper as director of business development/western operations.
Peper's 30 years of experience includes stints with Turner
Construction (26 years) and Barnes Construction.
Scott McCarthy Joins San Diego Architecture
Firm
Scott A. McCarthy joined San Diego-based Architects Delawie
Wilkes Rodrigues Barker as human resources manager.
He previously was a human resources vice president for Stockyard
Meat Packing Co. in National City, where he was responsible
for managing, coordinating and delivering corporate policy
to a facility work force of 65 people.
His previous experience includes five years as a human resources
manager for Schedule Online Inc. in San Diego.
Empire Land of Northern California Hires
Steve Millar
Empire Land of Northern California hired Steve Millar as
vice president of construction in new Pleasanton office. Millar
will be responsible for all of the division's construction
activities, including field operations, bidding and contracting.
Prior to joining Empire Land of Northern California, Millar
was director of land development for Lennar Communities, a
national land developer and homebuilder specializing in master-planned
communities.
Millar has 25 years of experience in land development construction.
Ruben Benitez Added to MFDB Staff
Sacramento-based Madsen, Flathmann, Dameron & Babcock
Architects Inc. hired Ruben Benitez as job captain and CAD
manager.
Benitez previously was a job captain with SDG Architects
in Brentwood.
He has 16 years of experience in a wide range of commercial
and residential projects.
Charles Adams Joins Carter & Burgess
Charles H. Adams Jr. joined Carter & Burgess as a senior
project manager with the firm's Los Angeles-Encino Transportation
Programs Unit. Adams, an aviation specialist, will serve on
Southern California assignments while assisting in business
development efforts in the aviation-related industry.
Adams will be a senior engineer on the company's utilities
and survey documentation project for Los Angeles World Airports,
a project that will identify and create a repository of all
utilities at one of the nation's busiest airport systems.
Adams joined Carter & Burgess after a 24-year career
at Los Angeles World Airports, where he was in charge of 17
construction projects with a total project cost of $224 million
at LAWA's four airports.
Prior to LAWA, he worked for five years for the City of Los
Angeles/Public Works/Bureau of Engineering as head of the
transportation section.
Mary Ellen Copek Added to Sukut Construction
Staff
Santa Ana-based Sukut Construction hired Mary Ellen Copek
as talent director, a newly created position.
She will implement key initiatives designed to fuel employee
development, improve company communications, enhance teamwork
and recruit additional talent.
Prior to joining Sukut, Copek was director of human resources
for Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc., a $1.4 billion company with
more than 3,700 employees. She also served as senior director
of human resources for Vibex.com and area director of human
resources for Comcast Corp.
Copek has 15 years of experience in human resources and related
fields.
She received a Master of Arts degree in Management from the
University of Redlands.
Steve Doyle Elected President of California
BIA
Steve Doyle of San Diego-based Brookfield Homes in San Diego
was elected 2005 president of the California Building Industry
Association.
Before joining Brookfield in 1993, Doyle was vice president
of facility planning and engineering for The Baldwin Co.,
where he directed the infrastructure planning and engineering
for the 23,000-acre Otay Ranch New Town Plan.
Doyle also was vice president/project manager and assistant
legal counsel for five years for Pardee Construction Co.,
managing the Del Mar Highlands community and the surrounding
2,500 acres of agricultural lands.
He also directed public works and private contract construction
projects for seven years for Nasland Engineering, a civil
engineering company.
