RNL Design Increases Southern California
Staff
Edward Carfagno was promoted to associate principal and Lissy
Ziesing was elevated to senior associate in Denver-based RNL
Design's Los Angeles office.
In additional moves, Kim Valino, Victoria Dolsen and Ed Hoagland
joined the firm in various capacities.
Carfargno, formerly an RNL senior associate, is working on
a bus maintenance facility project in West Los Angeles for
the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He has about 30
years of architectural experience in project management.
Zeising was promoted from associate. She has 25 years of
experience in architecture and construction.
Valino joined RNL as an architectural specialist. She 27
years of domestic and international experience both domestically
and internationally.
Dolsen is a project coordinator, currently working on the
105,000-sq.-ft. Fontana Library.
Hoagland is an architectural intern. He joined RNL from ASI
Design, a design/builder specializing in custom structures.
Swinerton Builders Promotes Linda Pearson
Swinerton Builders recently promoted Linda Pearson to vice
president and Northern California region business development
manager.
Pearson started with Swinerton Builders in 1989 and has worked
in marketing and business development and as a project engineer.
Prior to joining Swinerton, she worked for architectural
firms Whisler-Patri and Studios Architects.
Jon Rubin to Head Bay Area Regional Transportation
Agency
Jon Rubin, who has served for the past decade as the San
Francisco mayor's appointee to the Metropolitan Transportation
Commission, was elected chair of the regional agency.
Rubin is a former political director of the California Democratic
Party. In 1992, Rubin was appointed to the Peninsula Corridor
Joint Powers Board, the tri-county governing body for the
Caltrain railway system. He served from 1988-91 as chief of
staff for Sen. Quentin Kopp, who was chair of the Senate Transportation
Committee.
Barnhart Inc. Promotes Denny McMahon, Chris
Helbock
Douglas E. Barnhart Inc., a San Diego-based construction
manager and general contractor, has promoted Denny McMahon
to operations manager and Chris Helbock to assistant operations
manager in the Stockton office.
McMahon was promoted from construction manager. Helbock previously
was a senior project manager.
Dieter Joins Mid-State Precast; Firm Promotes
Luczenczyn
David B. Dieter has joined Corcoran-based Mid-State Precast
as vice president and general manager, and Jerry Luczenczyn
has been promoted to vice president of engineering.
Dieter will be responsible for plant operations, new product
development, customer service and sales. He previously served
as general manager for American Concrete Products in Omaha,
Neb., and Enterprise Concrete Products in Dallas. He has 20
years of construction industry experience.
Luczenczyn will be responsible for conceptual design, engineering
and estimating. He has been with Mid-State since 2001, and
has more than 30 years of experience as a design-build engineer.
RSA Promotes Wendell Salvador
Wendell C. Salvador, leader of the interior workplace sector
at Los Angeles-based Rothenberg Sawasy Architects, has been
promoted to senior associate.
Since joining RSA in 1999, Salvador has led design teams
on a wide array of projects including Hispanic Broadcasting
Company, Technicolor Digital Imaging, Lawyers Title, Union
Bank of California, Commonwealth Land Title and Water &
Power Community Credit Unions.
In prior posts, Salvador's interior design commissions included
Tom Hanks Productions, Eddie Murphy Productions and Texaco's
Regional Headquarters.
Steinberg Architects Promotes Robert Barthelman
San Jose-based Steinberg Architects promoted Robert A. Barthelman,
educational facilities director, to senior associate.
As educational facilities director, Barthelman worked on
New Helms Middle School in San Pablo, Holy Family Educational
Center in San Jose, St. Joseph Parish's new Church in Fremont,
Lynbrook High School in San Jose and Dominican Sisters' Residence
remodel in Fremont.
Barthelman has been with Steinberg for 11 years.
Richard Pollack & Associates Hires
Leif Glomset
San Francisco-based Richard Pollack & Associates, an
interior architecture firm, hired Leif Glomset as a senior
associate and project manager.
Glomset joined Pollack from San Francisco-based Studios Architecture.
His most recent project was a 165,000-sq.-ft. office in Foundry
Square for law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
As project director in Asia, Glomset managed the interior
design process for the then-tallest building in the world,
Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His other
projects include work for Sun Microsystems, Apple Computer
and Jones Lang LaSalle Partners.
Gayleen Hart Joins Carter & Burgess
in Sacramento
Gayleen Hart has joined land development unit in the Sacramento
office of Carter & Burgess.
The project engineer previously was a project manager for
Century Meadows, a residential subdivision in Lodi and also
worked as a design engineer for the Chase Chevrolet expansion
in Stockton. She has four years of experience with commercial,
residential and industrial site design, and is a former treasurer
of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mary McGrath Joins Ratcliff, Will Head
New Unit
Emeryville-based Ratcliff, a 99-year-old architecture firm,
has hired Mary McGrath, a specialist in fire station design.
McGrath, a LEED-accredited architect, will direct the firm's
new civic architecture practice.
McGrath worked on about 40 firehouses on the West Coast while
at San Luis Obispo-based RRM Design Group. She is an editorial
advisory board member for the International Association of
Fire Chiefs Foundation
McGrath also participated in the design of the Avila Beach
Front Street Enhancement Plan for the Port of San Luis Obispo.
Her experience also includes such academic projects as a new
elementary school in Cambria, and ADA entry projects for California
Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
EUCA Names Leslie Lord Deputy Director
The Engineering and Utility Contractors Association promoted
Leslie Lord, director of labor and member services, to the
position of deputy director.
Lord will continue to focus on the growth of EUCA's labor
services. She has managed the EUCA core business of labor
and member services for 15 years.
MBH Architects Adds 4
MBH Architects has added staff to its Alameda home office
and regional branch in Newport Beach.
Mansoureh Karimian, a senior project manager, was added to
the specialty retail studio. Karimian had been running her
own boutique architecture firm. Prior to that, she was the
director of in-house architecture for Fashion 21 in Los Angeles.
Michael Kouvaris, senior drafter, to the special projects
studio joined MBH from Danville-based William Wood Architects
in Danville, where he worked as a project manager on various
residential projects.
Toby Black, a senior drafter, also joined the specialty retail
studio. He previously worked as a designer at Oakland-based
Arthur Tam and Associates.
Yean Jong, a drafter, joined the restaurant studio, and Ana
Nino, a drafter, joined the CAD Studio.
In Newport Beach, MBH hired Gabriel Agraso as job captain
in the developer retail studio. He previously worked for Ontario-based
HMC Architects.
