The Teichert Branch of the Boys & Girls Club, a true community-based project, came to fruition after 10 long years of unwavering commitment by key members of the greater Sacramento area who never gave up on the possibilities of creating a 32,538-sq.-ft., tilt-up facility that would have an immensely positive impact on the entire Lemon Hill community.

As general contractor for the $4.7 million project, Panattoni Construction Inc. assembled a host of subcontractors who contributed more than $100,000 in materials, labor and other in-kind gifts to the project.

Numerous project design refinements over an eight-year period were specifically developed to reduce costs. Additionally, Panattoni Construction reduced its contracting fee to offset overall project costs and contributed all additional project cost savings back to the Boys & Girls Club.

The Teichert Foundation, a philanthropic arm of the Sacramento-based Teichert Cos., contributed more than $1 million and donated the cost to fund the Club's operating expenses for five years. Additional fundraising efforts included contributions from local businesses, as well as many community events to raise much of the funding for the project.

The Club also allows and encourages people of the community to donate their time as volunteers for all programs.

The Lemon Hill community of Sacramento will benefit greatly from the Club because it is equipped to serve the more than 10,000 young people living within a 2-mi. radius.

The facility will serve as a state-of-the-art venue for Boys & Girls Club employees and volunteers to provide local youth, one out of every three of whom are poor, with much-needed programs in character and leadership; education and career development; health and life skills; arts; and sports and recreation. Day-to-day homework assistance and nutritious meals also will be provided.
